DIMAPUR — ICAR–National Research Centre on Mithun (ICAR-NRCM), Medziphema, has conducted a two-day hands-on training on meat and milk processing for GRDT Farmers Agrovet Private Limited, Silchar, Assam, on August 4 and 5.
An update from ICAR-NRCM stated that the GRDT team, represented by Bapan Das, along with four members, has actively participated in practical sessions on value-added meat processing activities including preparation of meat pickles, hygienic packaging and other meat processing techniques.

As part of the training programme, the participants also visited the ICAR-Nagaland Centre’s poultry and piggery units, where they were given hands-on exposure to scientific backyard poultry rearing and scientific piggery management practices.
The programme concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ICAR-NRCM and GRDT Farmers Agrovet Pvt. Ltd. to collaboratively establish a meat processing extension hub in Hailakandi district, Assam.
It further stated that the initiative aims to support marginalised SC farmers and other local farming communities by enhancing their skills in meat value addition and entrepreneurship.
It added that ICAR-NRCM has provided essential processing equipment including a meat grinder, mixer grinder and bowl chopper under SCSP to facilitating GRDT’s endeavour to develop a farmer-oriented meat processing unit.
