ICAR-KVK Peren organises training on nursery management

DIMAPUR — The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Peren, organised a two-day training programme on ‘Nursery management and seedling production’ sponsored under the National Endowment for the Humanities programme of the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR) in Bangalore.

According to an update, it was held on February 8 and 9 at the Mhainamtsi Village Level Organisation (VLO) office in collaboration with the Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) Jalukie block, with Dr. Patu K.Zeliang, assistant chief technical officer (ACTO), PBG, KVK Peren, as training coordinator.

The first day of training covered topics such as nursery site selection, layout, bed preparation, seed characteristics and selection, sowing methods, pest and disease management, and care and transplantation to the field. On the second day, a demonstration of nursery bed preparation, seed selection, and sowing was held.

During the valedictory programme, Dzüthovi Kapfo, DFS (LDS farm) and Francis Amua BPM Jalukie block emphasised NSRLM’s goal of providing every SHG member with an agri-nutri garden, as well as the importance of eating organic vegetables, and reassured that follow-up on the gardens would be conducted.

Reluibamle, area coordinator from Mhainamtsi, New Jalukie, and Nkwareu village, mobilised the farmers, the release said, adding that after the training, inputs such as vegetable seeds of various types and varieties, gardening tools, shadenets, and plant protection chemicals were distributed to the women.

The training had 25 participants in total.
