Ibobi assures introduction of bill on ILP in the upcoming Assembly session

IMPHAL, February 7

Manipur government will introduce a bill related withthe checking of migrants into the state during the upcoming session ofthe Manipur Assembly which the state government recommended theGovernor to convene from February 25.
The decision of the government to introduce the bill was announced bypolitical parties held at his office chamber today forenoon.The chief minister convened the meeting of the all political party todiscuss on the bill which was prepared by the government based on therecommendation made by All-Political Party Committee on Inner LinePermit (ILP) headed by deputy chief minister Gaikhangam constituted bythe government in the wake of series of protest demandingimplementation of ILP in the state.The committee had on December 10 last submitted a 280-page reporttitled “Report on Inner Line Permit System” to the chief minister. Thecommittee prepared the report on ILP based on opinions and commentsgiven by eminent experts and scholars.
While accepting the report, the chief minister assured that the reportwould be handed over to state law department for necessary examinationand formulation of a bill in consultation with the constitutionalexperts.
Later, Ibobi appealed to the Joint Committee on Inner Line PermitSystem (JCILPS), spearheaded various form of agitation pressing thegovernment for introduction of ILP to check unchecked entry ofnon-Manipuris into the render support and cooperation to thegovernment to pass the bill on ILP at the earliest possible time.
Today, the chief minister convened the meeting of the all politicalparties before he took a flight to New Delhi to attend a meeting ofthe newly formed NITI Aayog (National Institution for TransformingIndia) at the national capital.
The meeting held at chief minister’s secretariat was lasted more thantwo hours.
After the meeting, state BJP spokesperson RK Shivachandra who attended the meeting told media that he hoped that people’s demand would beemerged out as success.
He further said both the chief minister and deputy chief minister haveassured the all party committee that the bill will be passed duringthe session.
Mention may be made that a cabinet meeting convened by chief ministeron February 5 last has decided to recommend the state Governor tosummon 10th session of the 10th Manipur State Legislative Assemblyfrom February 25.
