IBFF Northeast Blind Football: Nagaland placed first runners-up
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Blind Football team secured first runners-up position in the IBFF Northeast Zonal Blind Football Tournament, which was held in Aizawl, Mizoram from April 3 to the 6th.
The Nagaland team showcased exceptional skill and determination at the 5th Men’s and 2nd Women’s Edition of the IBFF tournament, an update stated.
Competing with other teams from the Northeast, Nagaland narrowly missed the championship title after a 0-1 loss to Meghalaya in the final match.
Nagaland team also secured two individual awards at the event with Rongsenyanger bagging the men’s best goalkeeper award and MighitoYeptho receiving the men’s emerging player award.
Despite the defeat in the final, the team demonstrated remarkable sportsmanship and resilience throughout the tournament. This significant achievement not only highlights the skill and dedication of the team but also underscores the growing prominence of blind football as a sport that celebrates inclusivity and athleticism, said the update.
Moreover, the Nagaland team’s outstanding performance secured their qualification for the National Blind Football Tournament scheduled to take place in Pune, Maharashtra, in June this year.
The prestigious event will bring together top blind football teams from across the country, providing an opportunity for the Nagaland team to further showcase their talent at a national stage.
The Nagaland team was led by Diethozo Yoho as head coach, KezhaletoZecho as assistant coach-cum-goal guide and Rongsenyanger as goalkeeper-cum-escort.
