Kohima, Aug. 5 (EMN):
As many as 453 dead chickens were seized from four pickup trucks by the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) in Mokokchung on Wednesday morning.

Confirming this to Eastern Mirror, an official from MMC informed that they found hundreds of dead chickens from four poultry pickup trucks that arrived in Mokokchung from Jorhat, Assam, while going for an inspection at around 7:30 am on August 5.

It was informed that the council disposed of the chicken carcasses at a dumping zone after mixing the mutilated remains with sodium hypochlorite and packing in polythene bags.

The live chickens were delivered to the poultry shops thereafter and the drivers, who are from Jorhat, were thermal screened, it was informed.

The Veterinary department confirmed that the chickens, ‘which were tightly jammed into the trucks,’ died during transportation, the source said.
