DIMAPUR — With a floor test scheduled for May 22 following a no-confidence motion against Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) chairperson Hukheto Yepthomi, the latter on Sunday said that he has left the matter to the wisdom of the party leadership to bring about reconciliation among the members.
It may be mentioned that 12 elected councillors—six each from the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)—moved a no-confidence motion against Yepthomi on May 11.
At present, the NPF has 17 elected members in the DMC, including two members from the National People’s Party (NPP) who recently merged with the party, while the BJP has six members.

Speaking to a section of the media in Dimapur on Sunday, Yepthomi admitted that there was discord within the NPF camp. He said that six NPF councillors were dissatisfied over the allocation of responsibilities and had consequently sided with the opposition members.
Yepthomi informed that the councillors are in touch with the party leadership in an effort to bring about reconciliation.
With six NPF councillors backing the opposing side, Yepthomi said that he would abide by the decision of the party leadership.
The no-confidence motion, led by deputy chairperson Imlinaro Stephanie Ezung, was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dimapur on May 11, challenging Yepthomi’s leadership in the functioning of the municipality.
Sources said the move was prompted by dissatisfaction among BJP councillors, who allegedly were not assigned any responsibilities in the council.
Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, acknowledged receipt of the motion and, in a notification, informed that a floor test would be conducted on May 22.
As of Sunday, there had been no report of the no-confidence motion being withdrawn.
