Dimapur, May 8 (EMN): Many students including parents/guardians, teachers and school authorities heaved a sigh of relief on Monday as the much anticipated Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) HSLC/HSSLC results were declared.
The toppers in the recently declared NBSE examinations have worked hard to achieve their success and want to do more to live up to their achievement in life.
This year, the top rankings for HSLC, HSSLC (Science and Commerce) were achieved by three students from Bengali community in Dimapur town while the HSSLC Arts topper was the lone Naga student, Elozüo M Saprüna from Kohima.
HSLC Topper Deepa Mishra from Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Dimapur

Deep achieved the top 1 rank with 97.67% and State highest marks in three subjects (Science, Mathematics, and Social Sciences) says the feeling of excitement and surprise is yet to sink in as she did not expect to be on top though she expected to be one among the top 20.
Aspiring to be a Cardiologist, she wants to pursue Science subject and continue to be a student of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School where she has achieved this feat while crediting her teachers and school for the constant monitor. Her father, Lakshman Mishra also teaches at the same school.
Deepa says she spend around four hours a day for studies. “I made sure that the few hours I spend studying was done with concentration and 75% of my learning was from classroom teaching”.
According to her: “Concentration is very important and one need not spend eight to nine hours for studies without concentration which will be a waste of time”.
Vice principal of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Sister Carol, beaming with pride, remarked that the topper was a ‘learned girl who have always been consistent with her academic performance’.
Commerce Topper Rajdeep Nath from Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur

Commerce topper, Rajdeep Nath scored 95% with state highest mark in Entrepreneurship. A first time topper, Nath says he did not expect to be on top 1. Son of Subhamay Nath, a mechanic, Nath aspires to be a Chartered Accountant (CA). However he expressed that due to financial limitation at his home he will not be able to pursue his dream but as a Commerce student take up B.Com in Accountancy and further plan to take up MBA.
Spending around four hours a day and sincerely working hard towards the exam days have borne fruit for this Commerce topper. He credits his parents, teachers and best friend for their confidence on him and boosted him to be one among the topper’s list.
However Nath’s mother had mixed feeling of excitement and worry. Though proud of her son’s success, she shared concern over his further schooling if they can afford for his education to meet academic expenses and allow him to pursue his dreams.
Science Topper Piklu Paul from Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur

This is the second achievement for Piklu Paul, the topper of Science stream who also managed to score the state highest marks in Chemistry, Physics and Bengali. Paul was also ranked 13th in HSLC exam in the year 2015. His scoring expectation was between 85-90%, however with his sheer dedication of six to eight hours study, he managed to be the state topper with a score of 94.80%.
His father Pratul Ranjan Paul who runs a small business in Dimapur cannot afford his coaching expenses which he wants to pursue to crack entrance exams, shares Paul who appeared modest. Not dithered by this limitation, Paul plans to pursue Software engineering.
He attributed his school, parents and teachers for their valuable guidance throughout their learning process. Paul acknowledged the school principal Monoj Bhattacharjee for his constant support especially for reaching out financially.
Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur principal, Monoj Bhattacharjee who took pride at the outstanding results produced by his students both in Science and Commerce subjects, acknowledged the unceasing cooperation extended by the parents and guardians of the students towards the school which he remarked to be one factor for the success story of the school.
Bhattacharjee also attributed the sincere efforts of the teachers who have always been with the students monitoring their academic performance. The principal also mentioned that the students have been able to receive excellent tutor because of the sufficient teachers available in the school who are always available for their requirements.
HSSLC Arts stream topper Elozüo Saprüna

(Our Correspondent) Eighteen years old Elozüo M Saprüna, who topped the HSSLC Arts Stream examination 2017 out of a total 11,653 students who appeared for the same, says he really wanted to score good marks but topping the merit list has come as a surprise.
A student of Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School, Kohima, Elozüo scored an aggregate 471 marks securing 94.20% to outdo 9005 of his peers who qualified along with him. He also scored the highest in the HSSLC 2017 Political Science with 98 marks and Psychology with 97 marks.
“I am very happy and excited…. I owe it all to God, my family, aunts and uncles, my teachers and my school,” the young topper told Eastern Mirror. He also acknowledges the support of his grandfather, a retiree who lives in Medziphema, for his achievement.
Although Elozüo is said to have excelled in the HSLC and Class XI board exams in 1st division, he said this was the first time he is topping a major examination. Actually, this is the first time someone in his family of seven siblings emerged as a topper, he informed.
When asked how he prepared for the examination, he said he really wanted to score well and had tried to dedicate upto eight hours a day studying and revising.
On his future plans, Elozüo says he wants to take up Psychology honours for his bachelors degree and gain more insight on the subject as it intrigued him. “Hopefully, after I complete my BA, I will be able to make a firm decision on where to go next,” he said. The young topper belongs to Punanamei village in Mao district of Manipur, but was born and raised in Kohima. He lost his mother in 2006 and his father in 2010. He currently lives with his stepmother, who takes care of the family.
Besides Elozüo, the Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School, Kohima has produced five others in Top 10 merit list in the HSSLC 2017 Arts Stream. They are- Roseline Pojar (top #3), Nühüvolü Chüzho (top #4), Vietelo Arüji (top #6), Rüyihülü Cükhamu (top #9) and Rülevelü Cükhamu (top #10).
Speaking briefly to this correspondent, the Principal of the school gives all praise and honour to the Almighty God. While acknowledging the passion of the teachers who are greatly devoted to their work and inspire the students, the principal said it is the consistent hardwork of the students that ultimately delivered such good result. “This beautiful moment has brought us tears of joy…. We are very excited,” she added expressively.
