The party leaders held a meeting on Nov. 18 with party members and workers at its central committee office as part of the ‘party tour programme’ in the five district committees ahead of the convention.
Talking to Eastern Mirror Correspondent, O Daniel Teron, Secretary incharge publicity stated that the party tour programme started from Nov. 15 of this month at Hamren district committee then at Dokmoka and on Nov. 18 at Diphu. Further the tour programme will be held at Bokajan and Kaziranga, on Nov. 22 and 23rd respectively.
The main purpose of organising the party tour programme by HSDC is to inform party workers about the convention schedule for Dec. 10 and 11th at Diphu, stated the official.
“In the convention we will be placing a draft document to discuss on the framing of a constitution and rules for the party in getting registered as a full-fledged political party with Election Commission of India, with regional sentiments,” cited Teron.
In the convention the party is expected to have the highest participation of delegates from the twin hill districts of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao, added Teron.
The party is also said to be contemplating to bring back the regional sentiments for safeguarding the political, social, culture, language and land rights of the hill tribes people of the three hill districts in Assam.
It may be mentioned that the HSDC is the re-christened of Hill State Democratic Party (HSDP) formed on Dec. 2015.
The leaders are of the same political outfit and erstwhile Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) who has launched a movement from 1986 for Autonomous State demand under provision of Art. 244 (A) of the constitution with the Central government.
But, differences of ideologies and programmes with the CPI (ML), the parties split in the year 2001.
It got the name as People’s Alliance for Peace Agreement (PAPA) while extending the moral support to the peace agreement by the erstwhile United Peoples Democratic Solidarity with Central government in Nov. 2011.
The HSDC is now said to be trying to alienate CPI (ML) to form its separate political entity. Secretary incharge publicity Teron said, “One person cannot have dual membership in two parties. He should either leave CPI (ML) to be member in HSDC; otherwise he will be not acceptable.”
General secretary, HSDC Chomang Kro during the meeting told party workers that district wise meeting is being organised for their participation in the party convention on Dec.
Party secretaries Sonasing Terang, Hemsing Tisso and Daniel Teron were present at the day’s meeting.
