Headstrong Racing Club launches Wokha’s inaugural tarmac hill-climb championship, featuring three categories and a total prize pool of INR 3 lakh
WOKHA — The Headstrong Racing Club (HRC), Wokha, on Friday inaugurated the first Uphill Battle Tarmac 2026 and Northeast Championship 4.6 at Nyiro Range Road, bringing competitors from Nagaland and other northeastern states to the district for a hill-climb event.
Extra Assistant Commissioner Sangmou Khiamniungan attended the opening ceremony as special guest and flagged off the championship.
The event is being organised by HRC in association with the Nagaland Adventure Club (NAC). According to the organisers, the competition features a five-kilometre tarmac hill-climb course divided into two stages of three kilometres and two kilometres.
Participants are competing in three categories — SUV, below 1300cc and Open — for a total prize pool of INR 3 lakh.
Addressing the gathering, HRC advisor Mhao said the club was established in 2023 to promote motorsport in Wokha and provide a platform for enthusiasts and aspiring drivers. He described the inaugural championship as a step towards developing organised motorsport events in the district.
Mhao acknowledged the support of the district administration, community organisations, sponsors, volunteers and other stakeholders in making the event possible. He urged drivers to compete safely and fairly.
Khiamniungan commended the club for pursuing the event despite challenges and acknowledged the cooperation of participants and village authorities.
He said the competition highlighted the importance of time, noting that even a fraction of a second could determine the outcome of a race. He also urged participants to uphold discipline, fairness and sportsmanship.
The EAC noted the scenic surroundings of Nyiro Range Road and expressed hope that the event would provide a positive experience for participants while promoting the area.
Registration for the championship began on October 8, while the opening ceremony was held on October 9.
