A housewife who was cremated four years ago was found alive. Husband of the said housewife L Chaoba and his family who had even spent more than 6 month behind bar on charge of murdering the housewife, informed about this to the media in Imphal on Thursday.The housewife has been identified as one Konthoujam Naobi Devi, daughter of Nilamani and Kunjarani Devi, a resident of Tentha Marongband in Manipur’s Thoubal district.
Narrating that how the incident had happened, 25 year old husband Chaoba of Tentha Marongband said his young wife Naobi (19) went missing in August 2011.
Later, he lodged a missing case at Kumbi Police station and also published the missing report of the housewife in some local dailies with a picture of Naobi. However, his effort to trace his wife proved futile.
On August 21, 2011, the officer-in-charge of Kumbi police station notified through local dailies that a corpse of a 35 to 40 year old woman was found near Ethai village and kept at RIMS morgue for further identification.
It also notified that the body of the woman will be disposed off soon if no one turned up to claim the body.
The mother of the missing young housewife along with some locals claimed the body the same day even though there was a report of variation, Chaoba claimed.
He further added that his wife's family along with a raging mob stormed and dismantled his house and forcibly performed the last rite of the body inside the premise of the house the same day.
Chaoba’s family was not allowed to identify the body before it was consigned to flames by Naobi’s mother along with raging mob.
Later, in March 2012 Naobi’s mother filed an FIR against Chaoba under Section 364/302/341 at Kumbi police station (FIR 222(9) TBL/PS).
Thus, Chaoba along with his parents were kept behind the bar for nearly 6 months in connection with the case.
However, later, they were released from the police custody.
Expressing suspicion over the development, Chaoba’s family had enquired about body the in-laws had performed the last rite.
Now, Naobi was found hiding along with her maternal mother at Nongdam Tangkhul village along with a new born child and a newly married husband one Tekcham Sanahal, son of Inaobi of Keibi Heikak Mapal under Lamlai police station in Imphal East district.
He added that Noabi along with her mother and new husband have been handed to police and they are currently detained at Thoubal Police custody after they were caught.
