House owners in Phek waive monthly rent

Kohima, April 26 (EMN):
In an extraordinary situation where many are affected due to the lockdown, resulting in business activities coming to a halt and business people travelling for survival, two house owners have waived monthly rent for thier tenant .

The act of kindness shown by two brothers from Losami village — Neiwetso Akami and Neiwekha Akami– who owned buildings in Bethel Colony, Phek town, not to take rent from their tenants for a month went viral on social media on Sunday.

General secretary of Phek Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), Chetezo has confirmed the news to Eastern Mirror and said the news had come as a big relief for business community in the town especially at the present hard time.

The buildings house seven shops and 11 families. PCCI official stated that there were three shops and five families in the building owned by Neiwetso Akami, while there are four shops and six families in the building of Neiwekha Akami.

Stating that the initiative of the two brothers was first of its kind in the town, Chetezo hoped that more house owners would come forward with similar gesture in the days to come.
