Horticulture officer urges organic farmers to employ local youths

Dimapur, Sep. 7 (EMN): Dimapur District Horticulture Officer (DHO) Temsu on Monday while distributing winter vegetable seeds to organic vegetable villages in Dimapur urged the farmers to employ local youths in their farm for the successful implementation of farming project.

The vegetable seeds comprising of brocholi, cabbage, cauliflower, coriander, peas, beans, carrot and lettuce were distributed under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture 2020 to 2021 to the organic farmers of Bade, Khugovi, Zani, Virazouma, New Chumukedima, and Ekhyo yan ( Domokia) at the DHO office’s premises in Dimapur, an update from DIPR informed.

Addressing the farmers, the DHO urged the farmers not to use chemicals and asked them to keep up the name of organic vegetable village of the district.

Observing the presence of different types of soil in the district, he advised them for identifying the soil and to sow seeds according to the suitability of the soil. He also impressed upon them to work sincerely with the aid given by the department and asked them to make vegetables self-sufficient at least for Dimapur district. He further assured all possible help from the department.

The farmers from the six villages thanked the DHO for giving them seeds twice a year (summer and winter seeds) and assured the department that they will utilise it judiciously.
