Dimapur, Jan. 27 (EMN): Director of horticulture, Dr. R Elithung Lotha inaugurated MK Nursery at Liezocha Dzudza village, toward Dimapur road near bypass junction, on January 25.
Lauding the efforts of the owners namely Khrielievi Chüsi and Mele Nakhro, Dr. Lotha said the state’s strength lies in horticulture as the climatic and soil condition favours growth of varieties of plants, including ornamental and medicinal.
Stating that the department is seriously focusing on development of horticulture in the state, he assured to provide technological assistance in promoting horticulture activities by aspiring entrepreneurs.
Dr. Lotha was accompanied by the deputy director, Jerry Patton.
“Agriculture being the main stay of Nagaland, most of the people depended on terrace cultivation without given much important in the horticulture sector. But with a view to create awareness about the scope of horti products, we have come up with this idea of nursery,” said Khrielievi Chusi.
“The geographical conditions offer tremendous scope for horticulture development in the state to create so many avenue but our people were not aware of it,” he added.
He also stated that the project initiated to create awareness and encourage youngsters and to help the villagers to sales their flowers as well as to train them on how to plant variety of seedlings at the right time. Every plants and flowers that can grow in other parts of the world can be sustained in our land without applying further fertilizer or technology, he said.
