Horticulture department conducts training on mushroom cultivation

Dimapur, Oct. 18 (EMN): Department of Horticulture organised a one-day training on cultivation of mushroom at Capital Convention Centre, Kohima, on October 15. Director of Horticulture Dr. R Elithung Lotha, in his keynote address, said that the department of Horticulture is now trying to develop different types of fruits, vegetables, plantation, aromatic and medicines in the state. Stating that the department conducts training on mushroom cultivation every year for income generation, he urged the trainees to make the best use of what they have learned from the training and impart the same to others for the benefit of all. A DIPR report has quoted him saying that the department is also working to make the state healthy for which he called upon the farmers to work hard towards increasing their products and work hand-in-hand with the department. The director also released the horticulture bulletin, bi-annual publication of the Nagaland state horticulture department. Resource person and deputy director of Horticulture, Meyasashi Longkumer spoke on low cost cultivation of oyster mushroom, while Dr. Sosang Longkumer, senior scientific from Alon multi-purpose cooperative society limited, spoke on shiitake mushroom. Altogether, 190 persons attended the training.
