Hornbill tail feather creation challenge on December 4

KOHIMA — In a joint effort to raise awareness and conserve the endangered Hornbill birds, Eco-Warriors Nagaland, in collaboration with government agencies and NGOs, is set to host the Hornbill Tail Feather Creation Challenge on December 4 at Nagaland Zoological Park, Rangapahar, in Dimapur.

In this regard, participants are encouraged to craft alternative hornbill tail feathers using sustainable materials, showcasing their inspiration, chosen materials, and creative process during the event.

It informed that the two winners of the contest would be awarded cash prizes of INR 20,000 and INR 10,000, respectively. The organisers informed that registration would be open on December 3 till 12 noon.

In a conversation with Eastern Mirror, Eco-Warriors Nagaland officials stressed the declining number of Hornbill birds due to several factors.

The aim of the event was not only to combat hunting of the birds but also to instill awareness among the younger generation about preserving the rare species.

The renowned Hornbill Festival, named after the iconic bird, is celebrated from December 1 to 10 at the Naga Heritage Village, Kisama.
