KCCI officials seen during the press conference in Kohima on November 30.[/caption]   KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 30: Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) is all set to kick off the annual Hornbill night carnival tomorrow coinciding with the State inauguration day on December 1 at Y junction at 6 p.m. for the next 10 days. Briefing media persons this evening at its office chamber, KCCI president, Jabou Sekhose informed that the carnival will continue till 9 p.m. every evening and added that vehicular movement will be restricted from 5 p.m. till 9 p.m. Since 2006 the concept and objective in organising the carnival was to promote young upcoming local entrepreneurs, comprising mostly of educated unemployed. It was also to attract and promote tourism and offer a peaceful night life to the denizens of Kohima. The officials informed that in this year edition, the carnival will a good number of Self Help Groups (SHGs), churches, NGOs, college students and similar institutes selling wares ranging from toys, party pieces, handlooms, handicrafts, eateries and varieties of local products, seeking to raise funds. Altogether 140 stalls will be set up at the trader’s road. When asked about the apprehension among the citizens owing to demonetisation of currency, the officials informed that KCCI had requested the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, and the banks to store the ATMs with smaller currency denominations and also to keep the ATMs open till the close of carnival each night. Dr. Seyie said KCCI also appealed the Naga political groups to maintain peace and to refrain from any disturbances to the business community. KCCI also appealed the public to come, witness, participate and purchase from the local entrepreneurs which will greatly boost and encourage them while it also requested both the vendors and revellers to adhere to the district administration’s notice to make the area plastic free zone or usage of plastic which is 40 microns and above. Advisor and former KCCI president Khriehuzo Lohe will officially inaugurate the carnival, while the associate pastor of Naga Bazar Baptist Church Mezhüzolie Meyase will invoke God’s blessing.
