[dropcap]E[/dropcap]astern Commander Lt. General MMS Rai AVSM, VSM graced the cultural programme of Hornbill Festival as Special Guest on December 7 at Naga Heritage village Kisama. He was accompanied by his lady wife Kiran Rai who also the President of Eastern Command Army Wife Welfare Association (AWWA); Parliamentary Secretary for Vety. & AH and Treasuries & Accounts Vikho-o Yhoshu; Advisor Tourism E.E.Pangteang; GOC 3 Corps Lt. General Bipin Rawat and Rawat and other officials.
The cultural troupes who participated in the morning session included Saramati Rekhiangpong Dancing Club Salomi Village (Yimchungru)- Tsungkam Neo/Neo-do Neo; Bhunmnyu Cultural Troupe (Phom)- Folk Dance; Aosungkum Cultural Club Mokokchung (Ao)-Drama; Dimasa Cultural Troupe Dimapur (Kachari)- (War Dance); Phiro Cultural Club Wokha Town (Lotha)- Pounding of rice; Tuophema Village Cultural Troupe (Angami)- Indigenous games; Kuki Cultural Troupe Inbung (Kuki)- Salu Lam/Salha Kon (Folk Dance); Meluri Cultural Troupe (Pochury)- A-he and Khiamniungan Cultural Club Tuensang (Khiamniungan)- Jam Hang.
Parliamentary Secretary for Urban Development Zhalio Rio, Parliamentary Secretary for Forest Dr. Nicky Kire, Advisor Tourism E.E. Pangteang, Commissioner & Secretary for Industries & Commerce M.K. Mero and Legendary Musician Vinnie Moore attended the cultural programme of the afternoon session. Different cultural troupes from various tribes of Nagaland participated in the cultural programme with their dances and songs.
The cultural troupes were as follows: Teragvunyu Youth Dengme Cultural Troupe (Rengma)- Singinyu Gen Keran Lu (Folk Song); Garo Historical 8 Cultural Society Dimapur (Garo)-Rugala Chokra or Rugala Dance; Longsoh Wotzo Cultural Troupe (Kunyak)-Mai Pu (Ballad); Mbaupungwa Village Cultural Troupe (Zeliang)- Folk Dance; Phelungre Women Society, Kiphire Town (Sangtam)- Folk song; Changun Cultural Society Tuensang (Chang)- Laaugh ngabu tetsida; Chekiye Women Cultural Group Dimapur (Sumi)-Kugha Kiche Tsa (Short play) and Dzulhami Village Cultural Troupe (Chakhesang)- Dzulha Rri whu lizzo (Ode to the Dzulha warriors).
3rd Hornbill Cycle Rally culminates
The 3rd Hornbill Cycle rally under the theme “Bike the drive: for a sustainable environment” organized by Alaphra Group on December 7 which was flagged off from Naga Heritage village Kisama culminated at the Heritage Old DC Bungalow Kohima. Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya flagged in the participants.
During a short programme held, the Governor said India is marching forward where Nagaland cannot afford to lack behind in every field. He called the participants not to be self-absorbed but aim for the benefit of the society, nation and for the state as a whole.
The rally was sponsored by Department of Tourism Government of Nagaland and supported by Department of Forest, Ecology, Environment and Wild Life Government of Nagaland.
Pork eating competition at Kisama
Pork eating competition was one of the best activities which makes more eventful of the Hornbill Festival 2014 where people from all walks of life thronged and enjoyed the pork fat eating competition held on December 7 at Kisama.
All together 28 participants including two women registered for the competition. The pork was cooked without any ingredient or species to make more challenging for the competitors.
Chuba Temjen Jamir from Mokokchung was declared champion of the competition walked away with a cash prize of Rs. 15,000/- and certificate. Lavohu Tsutso from Kohima and Throngsemong from Tuensang district bagged 1st and 2nd runners up respectively and received a cash prize of Rs. 10000/-, 5000/- along with certificates.
Adams Apple is winner of Hornbill Intl Rock Contest
The Hornbill International Rock Contest 2014 concluded this evening.
Out of the nine finalists who took the stage for the grand finale, Adams Apple from Darjeeling emerged as the ultimate winner of this year’s rock contest. They will receive prize money of Rs 10 lakhs.
The 1st runner-ups bagged by Nightmares from Sikkim, while Muses of Authority from Siliguri bagged the third place.
