Prakash Jha graces day-three cultural prog

National and international film maker, producer and director Prakash Jha graced the 3rd day cultural programme of Hornbill Festival 2014 as the special guest on December 3 at the Naga Heritage village, Kisama.
Prakash Jha, who is also associated with the Young Leaders’ Connect, was accompanied by Advisor Tourism EE Pangteang, Commissioner & Secretary Tourism, Art & Culture Himato Zhimomi and Director Art & Culture Vevo Sapuh.
The cultural troupes who participated in the morning session were Longsoh Wotzo cultural troupe (Konyak) performing Wantang pu victory dance; Meluri cultural troupe (Pochury) – howa dance; Mbaupungwa village cultural troupe (Zeliang) – howa dance; Phiro cultural club, Wokha Town (Lotha) – heyo-he folk song; Garo Historical & Cultural Society Dimapur (Garo) – two sisters and the Ogre folk tales; Chekiye women cultural group Dimapur (Sumi) – Ayekuzule song of weaving cotton; Tuophema village cultural troupe (Angami) – folk song; Kuki cultural troupe Inbung (Kuki) – khul lam folk dance and Saramati Rekhiangpong Dancing Club Salomi village (Yimchungru) – Logdrum folk song.
In the afternoon session, the following cultural troupes from various tribes of Nagaland participated in the cultural programme with their dances.
The cultural troupes were Changun Cultural Society Tuensang (Chang) – War Danes (Wapyu Chia); Aosungkum Cultural Club Mokokchung (Ao) – Anga Malu (Fish Dance); Dzulhami village cultural troupe (Chakhesang) – Dzülha Cirophe (Dzulha salutation dance); Dimasa cultural troupe Dimapur (Kachari) – Rimin Nelaiyaba (Indigenous games); Phelungre women society Kiphire Town (Sangtam) – Founding of a new village (Folk Song); Bhunmnyu cultural troupe (Phom) – folk dance; Teragvunyu Youth Dengme cultural troupe (Rengma) – Pvuketun Kesü (Wood Pulling); Khiamniungan Cultural Club Tuensang (Khiamniungan) – Abeniu Tsem Thao (General village grinding).

Writers, scholars urged to bring out a common Naga literature

Parliamentary Secretary for Art & Culture, Printing & Stationery Er. Kropol Vitsu graced the inaugural function of the Hornbill Literature Fest 2014 at the Heritage, Kohima on December 3.

The literature fest was organised by the department of Art & Culture and Tourism, Nagaland in collaboration with Heritage Publishing House and the Kohima institute. The Parliamentary Secretary in his address expressed concern over the lack of a common literature of the Nagas which he said leads to unnecessary division among the Nagas. He therefore urged the writers and scholars of the Naga society to put effort to bring out a common literature.
“It may not be an easy task but it needs to be done,” he said, while he further encouraged the Naga writers to concentrate on a specific subject and also to write with more zeal that could give a facelift to the Naga society.
Kropol Vitsu also formally launched the book on Archeology of Naga ancestral site Vol I & II authored by Dr. Tiatoshi and Physical characteristics of the Nagas of Nagaland Vol I & II authored by Moasangla Jamir.
Commissioner & Secretary, Tourism and Art & Culture, Himato Zhimomi while delivering welcome speech said that Nagas have many issues to talk about and to catch up and are decades behind many. He was optimistic that through such gatherings of writers, scholars could provide the right path and direction to the Naga society.
Zhimomi said that writing is the most difficult expression of Art. He further called the society to be patient with the writers as it need lots of nurturing and hope that one day many talented and recognized writers will come up for the benefit of the society.

2nd Friendship Motorcycle Rally held

The 2nd Friendship Motor Rally was held on December 3 at Kohima. Over 70 motorcyclists from different clubs of Nagaland, Assam and Manipur took part in the rally.

The rally was flagged off from Kohima War Cemetery and the riders proceeded through NH 29 to Cherry Blossom School and did some charity works, after which they rode to Kisama where a programme was held for the different-abled people.
During the programme, the motorcycle riders were warmly welcomed by the disabled people at World War II Museum premises Kisama.
The Organising Committee convenor and vice president of the Nagaland Motorcycle Club, Khriebu in his brief address extended gratitude to the disabled persons for the warm reception. “We the motor riders love to ride to promote the Hornbill festival,” he added.
On behalf of the disabled people, one member expressed his happiness for getting such an opportunity to convey their grievances to the people.
“Disabled people should not be considered as handicapped, as in the eyes of God everyone is equal,” he said and further sought support while seeking their rights. Some differently-abled persons also expressed their excitement on witnessing the Hornbill festival 2014 for the first time in their life.
Mention be made that the motorcycle rally is a calendar event supported by the Government of Nagaland and the 2nd Frienship Rally was specifically organized as a special ride for the differently-abled people.
