Honor of Kings, PUBG Mobile and Genshin Impact among highest-grossing mobile games in first half of 2021
Dimapur, June 29 (EMN): The mobile gaming industry has seen tremendous growth over the past few years and it continues to grow at an unprecedented rate. According to a report by Sensor Tower, worldwide consumer spending on mobile games reached $44.7 billion across the Apple App Store and Google Play in the first half of 2021.
Honor of Kings, a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game from Chinese tech giant Tencent, has reclaimed the top spot on the highest-grossing mobile game chart. According to Sensor Tower, it generated more than $1.5 billion in the first half of 2021 alone.
PUBG Mobile, a hugely popular battle royale mobile game, came in at second with nearly $1.5 billion in consumer spending. It was also the highest-earning mobile game of 2020 with the game generating, on average, $7.4 million per day.
Genshin Impact, another Chinese game, grabbed the third spot with more than $848 million in consumer spending.
The report claimed that new mobile game downloads on Apple’s App Store fell by 22.8 per cent as compared to the previous year. However, new game installs showed better growth on the Google Play Store with a 3.9 per cent increase as compared to the previous year.
