Hongphoi village celebrated its 49th Aoleang festival with Angau I Thou, Deputy Commissioner, Mon, as the chief guest and T Ado Yanlem, Assistant Commandant 6th NAP as the guest of honor. The festival, held at the village football ground, was organized by Hongphoi Village Students’ Union.
Addressing the gathering, DC Mon said that Aoleng is a time for celebration and jubilation but a time for retrospection as well.
“We should retrospect and learn from the past in order to move forward. And in order to move forward in present times, education is a must,” the chief guest said while encouraging the youths to be determined to be educated and secure as many gazette government job as possible before their golden jubilee. Recalling the past when blessing is sought from the Almighty for bountiful harvest, Angau asked the gathering to seek God’s blessing and guidance in every aspect of their lives.
Meanwhile, the guest of honour, T Ado Yanlem said, although the youths today faces lots of problems in their day to day life, he challenged them it is the right time to strive and decide the future of the Konyaks.
“The youth should be prepared socially, mentally, physically and most important of all spiritually. Do not to fall into peer pressure and be what you are and not imitate others,” yanlem said and further challenged the youth by quoting Joshua Marine “Challenges are what makes life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.”
Other highlights of the day were Bamboo dance, display of log drum by tattooed man survivor of Hongphoi village, cultural dance and song by women folks and students’ union.
The welcome address was delivered by Buwang Chief Angh Hongphoi village, invocation by Wankam, vote of thanks by Honlem, head GB and benediction by Rev Tahlem. The programme was chaired by Liya.
