Dimapur, Feb. 25 (EMN): The Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission has offered updates about the series of training events in beekeeping that was conducted for beekeepers in different locations of the state of Nagaland which started in the month of February 2019.
The trainees included existing beekeepers; and agricultural and horticulture farmers from villages, a press release from the Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission stated on Monday.
“The objective of the training was to impart scientific knowledge on managing bee colonies and for introduction of bee colonies in farming areas for enhanced crop productivity through the pollination service of honey bees,” the organisers stated.
The training programmes were conducted as part of the RKVY scheme, of the ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation.
According to the press release, the trainees included people from the following list of villages: Yachem village (Longleng district),
Yachang A village (Mokokchung district), Mon Village (Mon district), Sirhi Angami village (Dimapur district), Shiponger village (Tuensang district), Ghatashi village (Zunheboto district), Sutsu village (Phek district) Tutheze village (Kiphire district), Longsa village (Wokha district) and Nchangram village (Peren district). Around 275 beekeepers and farmers were trained during the training events, it was informed.
Training for those in Peducha village in Kohima district has been scheduled to be conducted during the last week of February 2019, the updates stated.
The Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission distributed bee boxes and toolkits to the beneficiaries after the training programme, the press release added.
