Home comm. orders councils to keep poll code

Dimapur, Feb. 8 (EMN): In view of the forthcoming Nagaland assembly elections scheduled on Feb. 27, Home Commissioner Abhishek Singh has instructed village councils to ensure proper discharge of their duties and responsibilities as per the provisions of Area and Village Council Act, 1978.
According to the provisions of section 15 (1) of the Village Council Act, the commisisoner stated in an order, village councils have been entrusted with powers to deal with internal administration and maintenance of law and order in the village.
All village councils are directed to render all possible assistance to the personnel deployed for conduct of elections and the district administration for maintenance of law and order.
Village councils are further directed to ensure adherence to the guidelines of Election Commission of India and the model code of conduct in letter and spirit during the conduct of elections.
