Home-based detoxification programme launched in Mon

Dimapur, Aug. 26 (EMN): Evergreen Welfare Society (EWS), Mon, in collaboration with the department of Social Welfare and Prodigals Home, Dimapur, launched a free home-based detoxification treatment programme on August 25 on the theme “Drugs treatment works.”

The programme was virtually launched by the deputy commissioner, Mon, who in his message, appreciated the initiative and also assured full support and co-operation from the administration and the police, an update on Wednesday.

The DC, Mon, further appealed to the concerned department to extend the programme, if the same goes satisfactory, considering the present pandemic situation with no drugs treatment in the district.

The main objectives, according to the society, was to control substance abuse in Mon district and reduce the demand. Considering the Covid-19 situation where mass gathering is not allowed, EWS decided to conduct home-based detox programme to the people who use drugs and alcohol in the district headquarters and surroundings villages with the minimum target of 20 clients in a month.

Proposed activities to be carried out during the home-based detoxification treatment programme included proper assessment, counselling, medication, health monitoring and family counselling and follow-up by referral.

The programme was chaired by Sashi, EWS programme officer, while the dedicatory prayer was said by Gaipha, pastor of Hindi Nagamese Baptist Church, Mon town. Invitees included members from DAPCU, Mon Users Network, NNF and Shansham Organisation.
