Home based care for PLHIVand families

A training on Home Based Care for people affected by HIV/AIDS and their families was organized by Nagaland State AIDS Control Society at Jalukie town on 27th and 28th November 2013, led by Mr. Tarepnokcha Jamir and Mr. Avilie Sekhose of NSACS. Stigma and Discrimination continue to be the root cause for PLHIV preventing access to health care facilities. The Home Based Care is designed to equip PLHIV with basic know how to attend to common illnesses and infections at home, thus improving their health as well as reducing their burden on extra health care expenses.The first of its kind intervention for PLHIV in the district drew positive response from the participants. Home made cures for treating common illnesses was appreciated.
The training carried out in in co-ordination with the District AIDS Prevention Control Unit (DAPCU) Peren and Network of Peren District People Living with HIV/AIDS (NPDP+) was attended by 29 PLHIVs under Peren District.
Dr. Joyce Z. Angami and Mr. Lanu as resource persons highlighted health, hygiene and nutrition issues. They also emphasized on treating opportunistic infections, abscess management, bereavement counseling, care and need for support to the patient and the family.
