DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 7

Preliminary meeting with AHoDs, HoDs and officers in charge was held on February 7 at RD Directorate conference hall to discuss convergence of activities among line departments under MGNREGA Programme in the state as per the new Operational Guidelines 2013 of MoRD. The meeting, held under the chairmanship of V Sakhrie, Commissioner & Secy, RD was attended by 34 officers from 14 line departments.
In his opening remarks, Sakhrie shared a brief overview of the importance and possibilities of convergence of MGNREGA programmes with the activities and programmes of the other line departments.
Director, RD, Metsubo Jamir also highlighted the Central Govt’s guidelines for convergence and funds and the department’s attempt to converge the MGNREGA resources with other departments even though it has not been ‘very satisfactory’.
He also pointed out that convergence does not mean interfering on the other departments’ activities but in fact supplementing them with additional resources.
The convergence of MGNREGA programme with the activities of the line departments would mean upgradation and advancement whereby RD could provide the infrastructure and the line departments would follow up or improve, he stated.
The line departments are: Agriculture, Irrigation & FC, Roads & Bridges, Forest, Land Resources, Horticulture, Co-operation, Sericulture, Soil & Water Conservation, PHED, Food & Civil Supplies, SIRD, Labour and RD.
A core committee was also formed with Metsubo Jamir, Director, RD as convenor and line departments as members.
According to a press release, the next committee meeting to discuss the details of the convergence will be held on February 12 at the project director’s office at DRDA, Kohima.
