Hockey Championship: Jharkhand defeat host Manipur

Imphal, May 17 (EMN): Manipur lost to Jharkhand in a pre-quarter final match at the ongoing 12th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women National Championship 2022 at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium in Imphal on Tuesday.

In a thrilling match played under flood lights, Manipur’s M Priya Devi scored the first goal in the 30th minute of the match. However Jharkhand’s energetic player Binima Dhan equalised after eight minutes and three more goals were scored by Binima Dhan and her colleague Nisha Minj in the 45th, 47th and 54th  minutes, outclassing Manipur 4-1.

Earlier, Haryana defeated West Bengal 7-0.

In a pool C match, Uttar Pradesh won against Chhattisgarh 8-2 while Madhya Pradesh beat Odisha by a solitary goal to nil in pool D match.

May 18 will be a rest day as the quarter final matches will start from May 19. The semi-finals will be held on May 21. Meanwhile, the medal matches for the Hockey India Sub Junior Women National Championship 2022 are scheduled for May 22.

23 teams from states and union territories including five teams from north east (Manipur,Mizoram,Assam,Tripura,Arunachal Pradesh) are participating in the championship.
