Hockey Championship: Haryana to take on Jharkhand in final

Imphal, May 21 (EMN): Defending champion Haryana will take on Jharkhand in the finals of the ongoing 12th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women National Championship 2022 at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium in Imphal on Sunday.

In their first semi-final match, Haryana thrashed Madhya Pradesh 8-0. Haryana’s team captain (jersey 8) Saavi scored five goals in the 39th, 49th, 55th, 57th and 58th minutes of the match. Her colleague (jersey 17) Nidhi scored the team’s first goal in the 10th and 11th minute followed by (jersey 13) Riya’s at the 35th minute.

In the second semi-final match played under the floodlight, Uttar Pradesh lost to last year’s runner-up Jharkhand 1-2.

Jharkhand’s jersey 13 and team captain Bolo Horo scored the first goal in the 30th minute, while her colleague Nisha Minj netted the second goal in the 41st minute. Uttar Pradesh’s lone goal was scored by Purnima Yadav in the 45th minute.

It may be mentioned that in the first quarterfinal, Haryana beat Mizoram 4-1, while Uttar Pradesh became the second team to qualify for the last four stages after registering a comfortable 5-0 win over Chandigarh.

In the third quarter-final, Madhya Pradesh edged past Maharashtra 2-10, while Jharkhand outplayed Punjab 5-1 to seal a spot in the semi-finals.

Manipur Youth Affairs and Sports Minister, Govindas Konthoujam; Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh and President of Hockey India, Gyanendro Ningombam will attend the closing function.
