Hockey Championship: Haryana beat Jharkhand to lift trophy

Imphal, May 22 (EMN): Defending champion Haryana retained the 12th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women National Championship 2022 trophy after defeating Jharkhand 2-0 in the final at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium in Imphal on Sunday evening.

In the match played under the floodlight, Haryana’s jersey number 13 Riya and jersey number 10 Sijal netted two goals in the 13th and 39th minute of the match against Jharkhand.

Last year’s runner-up, Jharkhand was unable to make a difference unlike their quarter-final and semi-final matches wherein, they beat Uttar Pradesh 2-1 in the semi-final and outplayed Punjab 5-1 in the quarters.

Haryana’s skilled players managed to dominate the match right from the beginning denying any chance for any counter attacks during the entire match as the Haryana defenders stood firm.

Manipur Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam; Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh and President of Hockey India besides Hockey Manipur, Gyanendro Ningombam witnessed the final match. It may be mentioned that the national championship started here on May 11 with a total of 23 teams from states and union territories including five teams from Northeast -Manipur, Mizoram, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura.
