Historic 100 km 2-day walkathon held in Arunachal Pradesh

DIMAPUR — Marking the golden jubilee celebration of the Capital Complex Dree Festival Committee (CCDFCC), a 100 km walkathon is being held from from Khat Kodiñ (Ziro) to Dree Ground, Papu Nallah (Itanagar).

Spanning two days, the walkathon commenced from Ziro to Potin on the first day and it will be continued from Potin to Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh on the second day, informed an update from editorial board of CCDFC.

As many as 90 out of the 140 registered participants successfully reached Potin. ‘Among them, the first arrivals were strong-willed female duo — Tage Rinyo and Taku Yabi Millo — accompanied by one of the eldest walkers Pura Tama, completing the leg with an impressive 7 hours and 30 minutes.

The participants, ranging from 17-year-old to 75-year-old Tadu Lalyang Rilung and Pura Tama, not just from Apatani community but also from other tribes of Arunachal Pradesh as well as Nagaland, showcased the diverse spirit of the community, said the update.

Earlier in the day, the walkathon was inaugurated by three respected Senior Citizens of Apatani — former Panchayat District Vice President Bamin Kano along with former Zilla Parishad Members Takhe Taki and Nani Chatung.

Dr. Nani Tamang Jose, Chairman of the Organising Committee, expressed satisfaction over first day’s success, highlighting the absence of any injuries among the participants.

It was informed that the ay two walk will resume at 05:00 am from Potin.
