Hindu, Muslim communities in Dimapur appeal for reopening of New Market, Hazi Park
Dimapur, July 17 (EMN): The Hindu Seva Samiti and Muslim Council Dimapur have once again appealed to the district administration to consider reopening of New Market and Hazi Park.
In a representation to the deputy commissioner of Dimapur, the organisations stated that with the two markets being closed for more than 120 days now, more than 15,000 people including shopkeepers’ families, mostly belonging from the two communities, are affected.
Since most of the families depend on the earning from these markets, it said it has become almost impossible for the shopkeepers to meet their day-to-day expenses.

It mentioned that the communities had met the administrator of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and learnt that the council has already submitted the plan and guidelines to open the two markets; therefore, it urged the administration to take the DMC’s guidelines into consideration and allow the markets to open at the earliest.
Stating that in other part of India, businesses including shopping malls are opened with certain guidelines, it requested the authorities to permit re-opening of markets with strict guidelines as in other states.
Citing the plight of shopkeepers, who have to pay house rents and school fees for their children besides kitchen expenses, it stated that some of them are going through depression and expressed apprehension that it may lead to self-immolation if the situation continues.
