Hill Theatre represents Nagaland at NE Theatre Festival
DIMAPUR — The Northeast Theatre festival (Poorvottar Rashtriya Natya Samaroh 2024) organised by National School of Drama was held from March 27 to the 30th in New Delhi.
The festival witnessed five productions including two from Assam and one each from Manipur, Tripura and Nagaland, which were performed in three different venues namely National School of Drama; Bharatmuni Natyagrih CCRT, Dwarka; and Bharati College, University of Delhi.
Nagaland presented a play titled ‘The case of Longti village,’ an adaptation from the novel by Sentilong Ozukum, under the direction of Bendang Walling, founder of Hill Theatre. The play was performed on March 29 at National School of Drama, and on March 30 at Bharatmuni Natyagrih, Centre for Cultural Resources and Training, Dwarka.
An update from Hill Theatre stated that the play ‘The case of Longti village’ depicts a devastating consequence on socio, political, economy, beliefs and environmental catastrophe of a village community due to coal mining and human greed.
The show was staged by fifteen theatrical artistes of Hill Theatre, who acquired skills in dramatic workshop certified by National School of Drama, batch of 2023. The festival was inaugurated by the chief guest, Dr. Sachidanand Joshi, member secretary of IGNCA, while the guest of honour was Robin Hibu, ADG of Police, New Delhi, and the welcome address was delivered by Chittaranjan Tripathy, director of National School of Drama.
Report further stated that representatives of Naga Students’ Union from around Delhi and students from Jawaharlal Nehru University attended the festival.
