Imphal, March 26

The All Manipur Hill District Contract Basis Teachers Association (AMHDCBTA) staged a sit-in-protest today demanding their regularisation and to give better attention to their welfare. The protest was held at the Keishampat Junction, Imphal. In the protest organised by the JAC of AMHDCBTA, one member L Angocha said that the contract basis teachers were appointed and engaged by the Directorate of Education (S) Hills under the MoU signed between the Government of Manipur and ATSUM in 2006 to cater the educational needs of the hill schools. At that time, the MoU clearly read that the service of the teachers appointed will be utilised until the posts are filled up on regular basis through normal recruitment or special drive as the case may be.
After that, the service extension order of these teachers and payment of remuneration was made only upto 2008 , and no extension order was further made even though their appointment was carried out after due advertisement and getting finance memo from FD of the government.
JAC member Angocha further added that the physical verification conducted by the Directorate concerned to them was declared as genuine recently in November 2011. Bur it is quite unfortunate that government has been staying silent after that and no concrete development has been takemn up after that.
Keeping the fate of the teachers , who have tirelessly rendered their service to develop education system of the state, in uncertainty is an inhumane response of the present government, and this uncertainty has caused mental trauma as many of them has become over-aged.
Later, he warned that the JAC will carry out many forms of protest if the government fails to address and bring amicable solution with the JAC within April 4.
