Dimapur, Sep. 16 (EMN): The Central Youth Organisation (CYO) of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has expressed dismay over former Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. SC Jamir’s recent statement made on incumbent CM Neiphiu Rio, saying that it was not expected from a leader of his stature.

The youth wing was responding to a report published earlier this month by Nagaland Page with the headline: “When solution comes, Muivah or Rio money factor will vanish, says veteran Jamir”.

Citing the past elections, it said the people of Nagaland had given the mandate to various political parties to form the governments, though all forces work against certain parties.

The CYO recalled how the Congress party that was enjoying an absolute majority in the assembly was defeated by the NPF in 2003, again in 2008 despite the President’s Rule imposed by the Congress-led UPA government, and in 2013 as well.

“In the 2018 election, NPF government, ruled by an opposition-less establishment with 60 members in ruling met the same fate and was voted out. This proves the fact that the Jamir philosophy of ruling and winning elections with money and power holds no water,” read the press statement.

“It is high time for Mr. S. C. Jamir to call it a day. Otherwise his role in the history of our movement will be recalled again and again,” it added while citing his letter to Nehru against peaceful solution, opposition to peace talks and refusal to welcome the ceasefire when he was the Chief Minister of the state.

The youth wing also accused the veteran Congress leader of taking a “U-turn” and demanding the resignation of the present MLAs after opposing the accord signed to end the Naga political issue, and playing opportunistic politics.

While expressing its gratitude to the people for their conscious wisdom and support, the CYO went on to congratulate Rio for being the longest serving chief minister of the state.
