Hectic preparations underway for Chakhesang wrestling meet
Dimapur, Feb. 6 (EMN): Hectic preparations are on for the forthcoming 26th wrestling meet of Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) starting from Feb. 8-9 at the Chetheba local ground, about 50 km away from Kohima.
The meet is hosted by Chokri Area Wrestling Association and ground managed by Thenyizu Baptist Church in aid of forthcoming 75th anniversary.
With the pitiable road condition of state highway (Kohima-Chakhabama-Zunheboto), the Thenyizu village on Tuesday conducted a mass social work to clear the roads between Chakhabama-Chetheba in view of the wrestling meet. The ground management committee said they are expecting around 10,000 spectators with a sitting gallery capacity of at least 5,000 and the plastic chairs summing up around 5,000.
While inviting the well wishers and spectators to witness the wrestling meet, the committee said the tickets are available at the venue at INR 1000 for donors, chairs ranging from INR 200-500 and the gallery at INR 100.
On Thur. Feb. 8, the inaugural function will start from 8:30 am onwards; reigning champ Vechita Khesoh will be the torch bearer. Home Minister Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu will be attending the meet as the chief guest during the inaugural session.
The Naga style wrestling champion will walk away with a cash prize of INR 1.50 lakh while the runner-up will be awarded INR 1 lakh. The 3rd and 4th place winner will receive INR 80,000 and 50,000.
Five area/ranges viz Chokri, Seceku, Phek, Chozuba & Khezha/Khuzha tephe wrestling association will be competing for CWA wrestling championship. Reigning champion Vechita Khesoh and other prominent wrestlers like Pfusato Tetseo, Venuzo Dawhuo, Khruzoto Tetseo, Surhoneyi Soho are competing in the wrestling meet.
