HECTIC preparations are on to welcome Her Royal Highness, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand, who will be gracing the premiere purification festival of Angami tribe called Sekrenyi on February 25 at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama.
The princess will be paying a three-day visit starting from February 25 to 27. On February 25, she will grace the premiere purification festival of the Angami called “Sekrenyi”as chief guest. This was stated by the president of the Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO), Zadeho Rikha while addressing a press at the Naga Heritage Village Kisama under Kohima district.
SAPO is hosting the festival with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio as the chief host.
On landing at Dimapur airport, the Princess will be received by Ministers and Bureaucrats while in Kohima the state chief minister Neiphiu Rio along with other dignitaries would be welcoming her.
The next day, she is scheduled to visit the historical Khonoma village, World War-II Cemetery in Kohima and the Nagaland University Meriema Campus.
The Angami Nagas celebrate Sekrenyi after the full-moon to ensure good health of the community for the coming year; in soul and body and hence is also regarded as Phousanyi (the feast of ablution).
Meanwhile, Legal Advisor of SAPO, Vitsorel Lcho said that the festivities would be marked by traditional folklores and dances and various indigenous games competition. Other highlights of the day include competition in indigenous games. Except for Phreda and traditional fire making other competitions are open for all the four Angami regions.
Sekrenyi troops from the four regions are also scheduled to participate namely – Chakhro, Northern, Western and Southern Angamis. Indigenous fire making , cultural performances by CPO, NAPO, SAPO, WAPO and Chakhesang Cultural research Institute are also lined up; Youth Medley by Jakhama Baptist Church, Pgreda & Sei Bagei, High Kick, Top Spinning, Grease Pool Climbing etc competition will be played.
The main Sekrenyi celebration after the arrival of the Princess will commence at 2:00pm which will be marked by Naga Unity Dance by all the tribes of the state. The celebrations will conclude with the beating of retreat by Viswema Youth Organisation.
SAPO general secretary Mhasekho Tsükrü and press secretary Khrievisa Chale were also present during the press briefing.
