Dimapur, May 3 (EMN):
Heavy storm and rain that lashed Dimapur on Saturday damaged the Grace Orphanage Home at Virazouma in the city, which is home to 28 children, rendering the inmates without roof over their heads.

The owner of the orphanage, Mhonbeni, told Eastern Mirror that Saturday’s hailstorm and rain accompanied with gusty wind “tore our children home and my office. All my computers and electronics items and kids’ mattresses, books and clothes are drenched in the heavy rain”.

The storm dislodged roof tiles and the ceiling was blown off, she said, adding that they did not get enough time to collect all the items inside the house due to the downpour.

She however said that none of the children, aged between seven and 16, were hurt in the incident and are now living in the church hall.

Mhonbeni said that they started arranging the mess caused by the storm on Monday as ‘they couldn’t do anything on Sunday’. “Slowly, we will repair (the home) again,” she added.

‘Right now we have cleared all the rooms and we are repairing with the help of the children and close family members and I think we have to rebuild it,’ she said.

She said that her computers, monitors and printers in the office were damaged as they could take them out in time but the ‘children are all safe and no one is hurt from the wind and storm’. She appealed to pray for the children and for things to get back to normalcy.

She further said that they will be more than happy if anyone is willing to help the children in rebuilding their houses and rooms so that they can get back to sleep in their rooms.

It may be mentioned that the Grace Orphanage Home is run by Rev. Joshua Wijonomai and his wife Mhonbeni at Virazoma, near NST driver training institute. The home is said to be running for a long time before it was shifted to Nagaland in 2017.
