Dimapur, May 27 (EMN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has notified that ‘heavy to very heavy rainfall’ is expected in the state over the following week.
“Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty wind speed between 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at Wokha, Zunheboto, Kiphire, Mokokchung, Longleng, Mon and Tuensang. However, normal rain and thundershowers will continue in the remaining parts of the state, which is expected to become intense and last for few days,” it informed.
Nagaland will experience heavy rains and strong winds, and the possibility of flash floods, as well as landslides, it warned.
Lightning strikes will also be a common feature during this time and these showers are expected to continue over Nagaland until June 7, 2020. Several other weather conditions will be seen during this time along with hefty showers, it said.
The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and other line departments that are responsible to attend to any emergencies caused by natural calamities are requested to be on alert to save lives and properties during this period.
Public has also been requested not to shelter under large trees and near the river banks to prevent unnecessary risk to life from lightning and flash flood.
