Heavy hailstorm, strong winds cause havoc in Nilip, KA

Diphu, Feb. 6 (EMN): Heavy hailstorm accompanied by rain and strong wind damaged several houses and standing crops including betel nut, banana, papaya trees, vegetables in Nilip, Karbi Anglong.

According to a rough estimate, 600 families were affected by it. Several families were rendered homeless as the CGI roof was damaged due to the hailstorm.

The incident took place around 2 pm and lasted for an hour, according to Bijoy Bey, resident of Dokhora Bey village. He also informed that the hailstorm and wind damaged standing crops like betel nut, banana, papaya trees and vegetables including cattle, goats and poultry.

He further informed that Dokhora Bey, Bongja Tisso, Santi Kro, Moi Kro, Adivasi village, Dhola langso, Richomili, Phangcho gaon and several other villages were affected.

Additional deputy commissioner, Rajeshan Terang, informed that a team from District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) visited the affected areas to assess the number of affected families and loss incurred from yesterday’s incident.

“The staff of Solonijan revenue circle office under DDMA visited the affected areas today and made an assessment of the losses incurred and number of families affected by yesterday’s incident. Relief will be provided to the affected families on the assessment made”, he added. On the other hand, Bey urged the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) authority to provide CGI sheets to the affected families to rebuild their houses.
