A new born baby weighing 6.795 kg was delivered by a mother with diabetes mellitus on January 24 at Belho’s Clinic in Walford, Dimapur. The baby could probably be the heaviest baby delivered in Nagaland.

An update from Belho’s Clinic stated that the baby was delivered through cesarean section by Dr. Mhasiseno Belho, a prominent gynaecologist in Nagaland, and the baby was taken care of by Dr. Akumtoshi, neonatologist and pediatrician from Zion Hospital.

It stated that the baby developed respiratory distress due to a condition called ‘Transient Tachypnea of Newborn’ and also developed ‘hypoglycemia’ due to the large size of the baby. Following detection of the condition, the baby was immediately shifted to NICU at Zion Hospital under the care of Dr. Akumtoshi, it stated.

On further investigation, the baby also had an acyanotic congenital heart disease without heart failure. It added that nasal CPAP for respiratory distress and immediate correction of hypoglycemia was done.

It informed that the baby was taken good care by the NICU and pediatric staff of Zion Hospital and has now fully recovered. It stated that the Naga couple was excited to take their baby home without any neurological deficit.

Belho’s Clinic has termed as a good example of getting the right treatment at the right time.
