Healthcare providers in Phek trained on MAA

DIMAPUR — Health department under Phek division conducted a district-level training on Mother’s Absolute Affection (MAA) on September 24 and 25 at the conference hall of the chief medical officer (CMO) in Phek town.

An update from CMO stated that the training was attended by General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM), Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery (ANM) and community health officers (CHO) with Dr. Rukuwe Thele, medical officer of PHC Chizami, as the resource person.

The training was conducted with the main objectives to train the healthcare providers to enhanced their skill to enable them provide quality counseling services, impart the right information on the advantages of breastfeeding and breast milk to the mothers.

The trainees were oriented on antenatal preparation for breast feeding, dangers of prelacteal feeds, advantages of demand feeding, giving practical help to mothers, giving information in a positive way to the mothers etc.

The resource person also emphasised causes of refusal to breastfeed, reasons why babies cry, overview of infant feeding and HIV, breast milk feeding options for HIV positive mothers etc.

At the inaugural programme, Dr. Chitale Hiese, chief medical officer of Phek, briefly highlighted on the importance of the training and Sede Rupreo, DPM NHM, chaired the programme.
