Health workers give free medical services at Yaongyimchen

Dimapur, April 16 (EMN):
The district health society of Longleng organized a health fair on April 15 at Yaongyimchen village in Yachem block of Longleng.

The health fair was conducted in four neighbouring villages too, a press release from the establishment of the district’s chief medical officer stated on Tuesday.

Yaongyimchen village has no health sub-centre, for which the village’s council and the citizens there funded a small community-owned health centre in the village, the press release stated. There at the centre first aid treatment is provided, the updates stated.

According to the updates, Dr Imnameren Phom gave the keynote address during the event. He welcomed “each and everyone” to the health event, and urged the villagers to avail the services that the camp was providing. He gave instructions to the villagers about whom to approach and where to proceed for the treatment.

The village council’s chairman Yangpong, no surname given, gave a short speech thanking the medical fraternity and the authorities for approaching the village to provide health and medical services. He appealed to the villagers to extend cooperate throughout the program, the updates stated.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Toshirenla also gave a short speech during the event. She spoke about the importance of the health programme, and the services that are available there. She said that the aim of the health camp was not only to provide healthcare services but to ‘create an environment where the whole community gets sensitized about health issues.’ She thanked the villagers for the arrangement to conduct the programme.

The health camp provided free healthcare services besides publicising various health issues, and their prevention.

As part of family planning services, condoms were distributed during the event. Further, 88 blood slides were tested for malaria while six sputum tests samples were collected.

A total 67 patients were registered for eye screening, while three children were immunized. Other services that were given during the event were Copper T services and dental health services. Diabetes, hypertension, blood pressure were screened too. A total of 488 OPD cases registered at the event, the updates stated.

Further, the health workers conducted group discussions on maternal health, family planning, breastfeeding, and child health. Sessions were also conducted for lactating mothers and pregnant women.

Information, education and communication materials in local dialects as well as in English were distributed as part of publicity to educate the people on health issues, the updates added.
