Dimapur, March 13 (EMN): An organisation working in the field of drugs and HIV & AIDS in Nagaland has asked the state’s government to monitor and supervise the HIV-AIDS policy and programs. The Network of Nagaland Drugs and AIDS Organisation (NNagaDAO) issued a press release on Monday.
The statement said: ‘The NNagaDAO also appeals honourable Chief Minister Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu and Minister for Health and Family Welfare P Longon to monitor and supervise the HIV policy and programs of the state for effective implementation to achieve the national goal of reversing the HIV epidemic and the ‘90-90-90’ targets (90% of people with HIV diagnosed, 90% of those diagnosed on ART, and 90% of those on ART virally suppressed.’
The NNagaDAO, an organization working in the field of drugs and HIV and AIDS in Nagaland, sought the attention of Abhijit Sinha, Commissioner & Secretary Health & Family Welfare, also the chairman of the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS). The organisation has appealed to him to convene a meeting of the NSACS executive board ‘immediately.’
The NNagaDAO noted that the NSACS has not “had its executive board meeting more than a year, therefore it is pertinent for the society (NSACS) to have its executive board meeting and update its activities; financial status; especially the backlog and the annual action plan for the coming financial year 2017-2018 of the state, to the executive board members.”
The organisation asserted that the NSACS officials should “clearly spell out current situation” and the annual action plan for the next financial year 2017-2018 for the state.
“In case of failure in inviting an executive board meeting, the executive board members and program implementing NGOs and CBOs shall not be responsible or accountable to any setback to HIV program in state,” the press release stated.
The organization assured that it and its partner nongovernmental organisations are committed to the efforts toward achieving the UNAIDS’s vision for zero new HIV infections, and for ‘zero discrimination.’
