Health officials in Longleng introduced to PCV

Dimapur, May 7 (EMN): Office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Longleng, conducted a one-day introduction training on Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) for district and block-level training of trainers (TOT) in its conference hall on May 7 with Dr. Imnameren Phom, DPO (RCH/UIP); Christina Rume, VCCM (UNDP); and Viroli Sangtam, DPM, as resource persons.

An update from CMO’s office stated that Dr. Imnameren Phom spoke on ‘Pneumococcal disease burden in India,’ ‘Can pneumococcal disease be prevented by vaccines,’ ‘PCV efficacy,’ ‘Pneumococcal vaccine introduction in India,’ Safety and efficacy of PCV,’ ‘PCV introduction in UIP schedule,’ ‘dose, route and site of administration,’ ‘Sequence of vaccine administration in UIP,’ ‘PCV contraindications,’ ‘Vaccine cost, and know your PCV vial.’

It also stated that Christina spoke on capacity of ILR in term of No. of doses and maximum target being covered, Evin solution- system strengthening and improving programme governance, Evin process flow, PCV storage, transportation of PCV, temperature sensitivity of UIP vaccines, storing PCV in ILR, PCV vial handling, open vial policy applicable, temperature monitoring, vaccine management and record keeping, and PCV introduction AD syringes stock. 

Viroli Sangtam also spoke on safety profile of PCV, ‘What is an AEFI,’ ‘Classifications of AEFIs,’ ‘Formats and timelines for reporting serious/ severe AEFI cases,’ ‘Revised MCP card-immunisation record,’ ‘HMIS and MCTS,’ ‘Data flow,’ ‘Where to send the reports and new vaccine reporting formats.’

Report further stated that CMO Longleng Dr. Obangjungla, deputy CMO Dr. Philip Kent, all medical officers from the three blocks, CHOs from the health and wellness centre, DPM, BPMs, DCM, DEO (UIP) and IDSP, and Asha co-ordinators attended the programme.
