Health department undertakes SAARTHI programme in Peren district
DIMAPUR — With an aim to create awareness and educate the people on various family planning methods, the Health department of Peren division undertook SAARTHI programme, awareness on wheels activity on family planning, in 16 villages from March 11 to the 26th.
The target groups included lactating mothers, eligible couples and pregnant women, stated an update from CMO office, Peren.
It stated that the participants were made aware on healthcare facilities provided by the government, services available in the district, CHC, PHC HWC and sub-centre as well as various schemes under family planning.
The awareness emphasised on birth spacing method of family planning where a couple could decide intervals of pregnancies and number of children they want by using temporary methods such as use of condom, copper T insertion, and contraceptive pills.
It stated that beneficiaries were also informed that all family planning methods are available free of cost in all government health centres.
The team made awareness on the various family planning methods, distributed information education and communication (IEC) leaflets on choices of family planning, provided counseling to eligible couples, distributed condoms and oral contraceptive pills.
Altogether, 515 IEC pamphlets were distributed. Besides, the health officials made visit to 23 clients, counseled 25 clients, distributed 325 condoms and also distributed 139 COC cycles.
Further, focus group discussion (FGD) and IPC were conducted by IEC personnel along with ASHA and ASHA co-coordinators of Peren, Ahthibung, Jalukie and Tening block.
