Kohima, Nov. 4 (EMN): The Advisor for Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), Theja Meru has asked piano teachers in Nagaland to start having vision to make Nagaland as the piano capital in India.

The advisor was speaking during the Nagaland Piano Teachers Association (NPTA) members meet, Kohima chapter at Music Academy Kohima on Nov. 4.

Meru challenged the members as to what sort of legacy they would want to leave behind for the upcoming generation.

‘Why don’t we start dreaming to make Nagaland as the piano capital in the country,’ said Meru while adding that it is possible and is within reach. He said there are three things that will help in achieving that and encouraged the teachers to start having the vision of making Nagaland as the piano capital. If one has vision and the will it is absolutely possible, he said.

He called upon the teachers to dream together and work towards achieving the goal for sky is the limit.

The advisor informed that TaFMA is collaborating with royal opera house Mumbai. He expressed hope that such collaboration will encourage and provide a platform for young musicians from the state to showcase their talents.

NPTA Honorary member and renowned pianist from Nagaland Nise Meruno said that it is important to develop a personal connection with people and brand oneself as a musician. It is also equally important to give space for an artist to grow and develop.

President of NPTA, Khyochano TCK shared that as piano teachers, one should understand their students’ dreams and aspirations, their personalities and attitude. Accordingly, guidance and direction would be given to realise their dream.

Various pianists presented ranges of pieces starting from classical to romantic and 20th century.  A  total of 21 piano teachers from the state were given certificates.

NPTA Board Member Sahu Peseyie, while sharing his experience said that his musical journey started from the church. He added that students need to be motivated to grow.
