KOHIMA, AUGUST 27
THE Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) while acknowledging the genuine grievances of the All Nagaland Government College Teachers’ Association (ANGCTA) has, however, urged upon the teachers to be cautious and have concern for the student community. NSF vice president Joseph Ngouri and secretary education Bangdi Chawang said the NSF, as the guardian of the student community, was annoyed at disruption of normal classes due to phase wise agitation called by the ANGCTA.
“ANGCTA showing their resentment for not fulfilling their demand as assured by the government of Nagaland is genuine, but why at the expense of students’ academic career and future?” they argued.
Expressing utter dismay, the Federation also pointed that the Kohima College has postponed the scheduled date for mid-term examination due to the ongoing pen-down strike. At the same time, it also expressed shock that, the Mid-term examination in Phek Government College was conducted by the Grade IV staff and the contract lecturers due to the absence of the teachers.
“The NSF cannot tolerate such ‘shameful act’ as it illustrates total negligence and insincerity on the part of the teaching community,” the student leaders stated.
The NSF also urged upon the State government to look into the grievances of the ANGCTA with a rational approach basing on the assurance made to them. At the same time, the ANGCTA should also adopt alternative mode of showing their resentment so that thousands of students are not put at stake, the union said.
Meanwhile, the NSF has also appealed to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to intervene into the admission of Naga students to technical institutions in Maharashtra.
In an exigency representation submitted to the Chief Minister and also addressed to Governor, NSF president Tongpang Ozukum and general secretary Esther Rhakho highlighted the untold hardship and problems being faced by the students who are stranded in Maharashtra.
They said as the apex students’ organization, the NSF has great concern for the students who are unable get admission in various technical institutes under the Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra.
The problem is due to lack of proper communication between the Ministry of Human Resource, Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra and the Directorate of Technical Education Nagaland, the NSF said.
Maintaining that the Federation has met the Technical Education department several times and is still keeping in touch with the authority concerned, the NSF lamented that there is no concrete outcome or any positive response from the department as well as the competent authority to resolve the issue till date.
Therefore, the NSF fervently urged upon the Chief Minister to immediately intervene with all seriousness in the present imbroglio to deliver justice to the students whose academic career is at stake.
