DIMAPUR/KIPHIRE — As part of the ongoing Har Ghar Tiranga, Har Ghar Swachhata campaign from August 8 to the 15th, multiple cleanliness and sanitation drives were conducted in Mon, Tseminyu, Kiphire, and Phek.
Cleanliness drive in Mon
The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Mon Division, in collaboration with the Leangha Watsan Committee, conducted a cleanliness drive at Konyak Heritage village, Mon, on Monday.
The event aimed to promote public awareness of the importance of hygiene, sanitation, and environmental conservation while also fostering community participation in maintaining the cleanliness of public spaces, stated an update.

It said that members of the Leangha Watsan Committee, local volunteers, and PHED staff took part in clearing waste, cleaning Morungs, and disposing of litter in a responsible manner.
Waste segregation drive in Tseminyu
A similar campaign was also held in collaboration with the district administration, Tseminyu, Kithagha Students’ Union (KSU), and Tseminyu Green District Initiatives, during which a clean-up and plastic waste segregation drive was conducted at Chunlika Block Plastic Waste Management Unit (PWMU), Chunlika village in Tseminyu, on August 9.
The programme was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and Convenor of Tseminyu Green District Initiatives, Kikumsangla Jamir, as the special guest, according to a DIPR report.
In her keynote address, she stated that Har Ghar Tiranga, Har Ghar Swachhata is a joint initiative of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, and Ministry of Culture as part of the 79th Independence Day celebration.
The campaign aims to blend the spirit of patriotism with community-led cleanliness actions.
She urged village leaders, councils, and students to adopt the habit of reducing plastic waste at its source and to ensure that government assets, such as the PWMU constructed by the PHED, Kohima Rural Division, are made fully operational for the benefit of public health and the environment.
Appreciating the vision of the Tseminyu Green District Initiatives, she also expressed hope that other districts would replicate this model across the state.
Talks on plastic hazards were delivered by District Coordinator (PHE) Kohima Division, Ashale Seb, and Co-convener (TGDI), Zukia Woch.
During the drive, the volunteers cleaned up streams, the highway, and public spaces, collecting a truckload of plastic waste for storage at the PWMU. Volunteers also joined the selfie moment to mark the campaign.
Sanitation drive in Kiphire
The WSSO PHED Kiphire Division organised a sanitation drive at the periphery of community sanitation complexes and other assets as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga, Har Ghar Swachhata campaign in Tethuyo and Phelungre villages on August 9.
The drive was led by the consultant and staff of PHED, along with council committees, WATSAN committees, swachhagrahis, SHGs, Anganwadi workers, youth, and church members.
Together, they cleaned compost pits, drainage areas, and community sanitation complexes in their respective villages.
Villagers were also encouraged to adopt safe sanitation practices, such as proper waste segregation, regular cleaning of public facilities, and avoiding open defecation, to keep the environment healthy.
Drainage clean-up drive in Phek
Also, following the week-long campaign of Har Ghar Tiranga, Har Ghar Swachhata, the PHED, Phek division, in collaboration with the Lozaphuhu Village Baptist Church Youth Department and Phek Village Youth Society, organised a drainage clean-up drive on Monday, focusing on clearing debris and obstructions from drainage systems to prevent flooding and improve water flow.
The campaign also focused on identifying and fixing water pipe leakages in and around the village premises, ensuring proper drainage systems, and raising awareness on water usage.
