Thank you so very much dear “TEACHERS” may the Good Lord protect you, guide you and prolong your life and be a channel of blessings to one and all. For what we are today is all because of you. Wishing you all a very “happy Teachers Day”. A true leader
A true leader is a prominent influential person who direct actions or opinions. A good leader creates followers. A leader is someone who has the potential to lead, guide and protect the welfare of the people. I would like to draw our attention at the life of Nehemiah who possessed a true leadership, charismatic preacher, dynamic speaker, prayerful, God fearing person and committed himself completely before the Lord.
Nehemiah was a cup bearer of king Artaxerxes and was faithful to the King. When Nehemiah receives the news about the survivors there in the province who escaped captivity and are in great trouble and shame; as the wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been destroyed by fire (Neh 1:3), He cried to the Lord He sat down and wept, and mourned for days, He fasted and prayed before the God of Heaven (Neh 1:4). He prayed to God for His steadfast love and mercy upon the people of Israel, confessing His sins and the sins of his people. God has accepted a sincere prayer of Nehemiah and He opened up a way and the king too have granted him to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem by providing necessary requirements.
For God never forsake his people those who are truthful and committed. In (Neh 2:10) when Sanballat the Heronite and Tobiah and Ammonite officials heard this, it displeased them greatly that someone had come to seek the welfare of the people of Israel. Before Nehemiah took up any decisions He inspected the broken city of Jerusalem for three days. He planned everything before putting it in to actions. When he took the decisions to restore the wall of Jerusalem he was looked down and mocked by Sanballat, the Heronite and Tobiah and Ammonite, Geshem and the Arab but He did not lost confidence for he was with the Lord. He has faced many criticism, obstacles, hatred, enmity, trails and temptations from the neighboring place but he strong hold with his faith.
He organised the work by choosing an instructor and divided the members for every kind of works and places (Neh 3:1 ff). When the neighboring states got the news of its progress in building the broken wall of Jerusalem they were angry and started to create confusion and fought against Jerusalem (Neh 4:7-8). The burden workers started to divide among themselves and they raise their voice against Nehemiah because of their enemies and have threaten them not to continue their works but Nehemiah took up the courage and continue to lead, guide and encourage the people “do not be afraid of them. Remember the lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your kin, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes” (Neh 4:14).
Even at the time of discouragement He did not give up but took the courage to lead his people through the help of God and continue their good works. Nehemiah deals with the oppression, again there has been a great outcry from the people as their burdens become heavier and they started to complain as their tax have increased to pay the king’s. After hearing the outcry and complaints He took charges against the nobles and the officials for he knew that they are not doing their job sincerely he said “the thing that you are doing is not good. Should you not walk in the fear of our God, to prevent the taunts of the nation’s our enemies?” (Neh 5:9).
Nehemiah was a generous leader and a God fearing person who became the Governor under the leadership of king Artaxerxes he did not think for himself but rather he feels the burden and labor of his people. Nehemiah was not afraid of his enemy though He had been threatened to be killed. After so much of hardship and obstacles he overcome all sort of challenges and the wall was completed within Fifty-two days. When all the enemies heard of it they were afraid for it was the work of the LORD (Neh 6:15-16). GOD is faithful and he will fulfill every promise those who walk with him. Walt Disney says “all our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them”.
When we look back at the life of Nehemiah He was a GOD fearing person and a faithful servant a cup-bearer of king Artaxerxes and live a simple life. He possessed the quality of good leadership. He is prayerful, courageous, brave, good planner, good organizer, good counselor, good governor, charismatic leader and so forth. He has never forsaken his people even in times of good or bad situations. He worked for the welfare of his people. He guide the people to a right path by giving right instruction with a positive attitude of a true leadership. He has gained the trust of his people through his works and actions and above all He has a close relationship with the Lord by surrendering his life before the LORD.
Let us be like Nehemiah who took up the initiative measures for his people by living a God fearing life. We may face different types of obstacles that will hurdle our ways but don’t be discouraged every little effort that we do from our heart will bear fruits. Let our leadership be acceptable and be an agent of change in our society by showing good examples living a righteous life through Christ alone. Be a good responsible leader like Nehemiah.
