Haipou Jadonang’s death anniv observed in Manipur

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he 83rd death anniversary of great Zeliangrong leader and freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang was held across the state today. The main death anniversary observation was held at Jadonang park at Keishampat in Imphal.
Manipur Deputy chief minister Gaikhangam was the chief guest of the observation.MLAs Z Kikonbou Newmai of Tamei,Janghemlung Panmei of Tamenglong,social worker Thounaojam Iboyaima and other prominent citizens of the zeliangrong community also attended the day’s death anniversary observation.
Speaking on the occasion Gaikhangam said that a life size statue of Haipou Jadonang statue will be installed at the Jadonang park at Keishampat in Imphal sooner or later.The state government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 50 lakhs for the project, Gaikhangam who also holds home portfolio added.Besides the state authority is also planning to name the upcoming Kambiron railway station along the Imphal-Tupul railway line as Haipou Jadonang railway station as a respect to the great freedom fighter of the region, he added.Those who attended the function also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier in the morning, the death anniversary observation was also held at the Jadonang park in Tamenglong town,150 km west of Imphal.Many prominent personalities of the Tamenglong town attended the observation.
The day is observed every year on August 29 in commemoration of the hanging of the freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang in 1931 by the Britishers after capturing him on February 19, 1931.
Book on Jaganath released in Imphal:A book of Shri Jaganath Sahasranam Stotram was released during a simple function held at the office chamber of Directorate of Information and Public Relations(DIPR) at Moirangkhom in Imphal today.The book was compiled by Manimohan Singh and it was Published By Karnajit Waikhom and Krishnashagar Heisnam.
Former Director of DIPR P Bharat Singh,Sahitya Akademi awardee A Chitreshwar sharma,present Director W Rajen Singh besides the compilers and publishers of the book also attended the day’s book releasing function.
