GYAK installs new office bearers for 2024-26 term

DIMAPUR — The Gorkha Youth Association Kohima (GYAK) held the installation programme of the new office bearers-cum-general meeting on January 10 at GPPK Hall, Chandmari, Kohima.

According to an update, attending the occasion as the special guest, Asangla Longkumer, wife of Temjenmenba, Advisor for Transport and Technical Education, said that the Gorkha community has been closely associated with the Nagas since time immemorial and they have contributed a lot to the growth of the Naga society.

Lamenting that today communities are fighting against communities, she said it has become all the more important to maintain the spirit of brotherhood, support each other and create an atmosphere where everyone can live together as a family.

She said that in order to do that, people should stand united and help each other during difficult times. In this, she said, the Gorkha youth has an important role to play in building bridges with various other communities.

In order to gain the respect and trust of other communities, she said we have to be trustworthy and truthful to each other and this will only happen when we are truthful to ourselves.

Appealing to the Gorkha youth to work towards having a strong community, she asked them to stay committed to building a successful and peaceful future for the younger generation.

Congratulating the outgoing team for a successful tenure, Asangla extended best wishes to the new team of GYAK executives and also exhorted them to have long term vision and to be wise, capable and knowledgeable to take the youth and community forward.

She further encouraged all the youth of the Gorkha community to join hands and contribute towards a common future. She called upon everyone to work hard and to be successful people, noting that successful people can impact society positively.

GYAK general secretary Santosh Chetri and treasurer Robi Thapa shared their respective reports on the occasion.

Jenny Lamechane, vice president of the Gorkha Students’ Union in Kohima, presided over the event, while GYAK advisor Milan Sunam gave the welcome address and GYAK president Narayan Bahadur gave the closing remarks.

The new GYAK executive team for 2024-26 is led by Narayan Bahadur as president and Somik Khawas as general secretary.

Other officials include vice presidents Kiran Gurung, Anil Rai, and Nikhil Thapa; assistant general secretary Gunmaya Gurung; treasurer Robi Thapa; finance secretary Popin Rai; games and sports secretary Robin Lama; assistant games and sports secretary Nobin Thapa; information and publicity secretary Ravi Lamechane; and cultural secretary Pranita Rai.

Milan Sunam and Jiwan Limbu will serve as advisors.
